November & December 2010 - New Floors

November and December were consumed with the installation of new wood floors in the living room and office.  This meant removing furniture and hundreds of books, collections of fabric and LOTS of other stuff from these rooms and relocating all of it into the kitchen, porch, and attic.  In addition, it meant painting the office which was not repainted when we moved in (this was at the insistance of Megan).  In short it was a lot of work right in time for the holidays.

The flooring was delivered the day before Thanksgiving.  Installation began a week or so later, but was fraught with problems.  Bottom line, the wood had to be remilled before the job could be completed.  Finally, the floor was installed by December 17th.  Next we (Brian, poor lamb) tung oiled the floor on the 18th & 19th.  I'm sure we all lost millions of brain cells that we couldn't afford to lose with the toxic fumes of the oil.  The second night we slept with the windows wide open in 15 degree weather.  Expecting high fuel bill!  Fortunately, as soon as the oil dried, the smell was greatly diminished.

Over the next week little projects were completed (adding trim boards, returning furniture and furnishings to rooms, etc., etc.).  These projects continued through Christmas Day, so the living and dining rooms were still in disarray for THE DAY, but no matter.  Bottom line, the floors are done and beautiful!  Everything looks complete and finished at last.  Love it!
